Car drivers, beware of seasonal low sunlight

We are well into the month of November and most  Irish drivers have seen it happen to them at least once this month : low sunlight which affects visibility on the road making it almost impossible to see where you’re going.

Road safety statistics show that the months of October/November are where most accidents due to low sunlight happen in the year.  Overall, 2% of accidents are due to this seasonal phenomenon.

The main word of advice when confronted with low light dazzling is to give your windscreen a thorough clean to avoid any form of reflection, the main source of visibility issues. You also need to remain vigilant at all times to anticipate low sunlight, and if you are dazzled, slow down, lower the visor and if safely possible, put on sunglasses.

If you don’t have anything to clean your windscreen, a screwed up newspaper can get rid of most of the dirt and grime.

  1. Good tip on the newspaper. Alway use newspaper when cleaning the car windows and even the house windows

There is nothing worse than being blinded from the glare of the sun, and keeping that windscreen immaculately clean and streak free is of paramount importance to avoid any unpleasant experiences.

It is great to see an insurance company issuing safety tips to motorists. The personal, caring touch is something one doesn’t normally associate with corporates.

Keep up the good work, good people!

    All the very best!
