The challenge of Irish car parking

A recent visit to Paris was an eye-opener for parking. There ’s not a lot of on-street car parking, however any driver who might think themselves fortunate to secure a space might have to think again.

Parking on the street in Paris has an etiquette all of it’s own and involves parking your car just millimeters from the next car. The aim of the game apparently is to trap your opponent to ensure that it’s impossible for him to get out. It’s common apparently, for some drivers to adopt a bumper car approach to make a quick get away.Paris Parking Near the Arc de Triomphe

Across the Irish Sea, one minor celebrity was caught on camera dealing with another tight situation in a unique way.

Locally, a recent survey by Semperit Tyres found that 20% of parking spaces in Dublin are too small.

So we’re asking you – What is the worst town in Ireland for parking and inconsiderate drivers? Post your picture on Flickr and send us a link to it. We’ll post the best ones on the blog !

I don’t know about the worst town. But St. Stephen Green shopping center in Dublin is home of the double space hogger. The spaces are so narrow – invariably there is a 4×4 hogging about a foot of the space beside it. very annoying!

Good post! Wexford is also a pretty tricky place to park!

I have heard anecdotes about cars being left out of gear and with parking brakes off, so that it is easier to move it when people are grinding their way in and out of Parisian parking bays. How true it is I really do not know, but one thing I can tell you. I would be using a Vespa in these conditions. I’ll cry if my car had to get mangled in ridiculous parking bays.

    Cheers!
