Rents have risen for the first time in two years according to a recent survey by property website, Daft.ie. The national average rent now stands at €765, although this is still some 25% below peak levels seen in early 2008. Additionally, from August 2009 to February 2010, the number of properties available for rent has fallen by 20 per cent. So people are obviously willing to pay these rising rents. Commenting on the report, Ronan Lyons, Economist at Daft.ie said that it is too soon to say “definitively whether rents have levelled off” although the January increase appears to be broadly consistent around the country.
Can we conclude that our economy could be on the rise?
I guess this means we can once again become indulgent, spendthrifts.
Hang on!!….., I don’t remember ever doing that the first time round? And it doesn’t sound like something I’d easily forget. Am I the only person who feels that this whole Celtic Tiger episode passed me by? I’ve never lived a hedonistic lifestyle and I’ve always stressed about paying bills. This recession has suited me. It has gotten everyone round to my way of thinking. Suddenly, I had more in common with strangers at parties. Call it group therapy – problems shared are problems halved as they say.
But now rents are on the rise for the first time in 2 years. The economy could be recovering. Does this mean I’ll have nobody to talk to at parties anymore?
