‘I have a bone to pick with you!!’ – Delta airlines loses dog

Life is ruff!!There’s nothing worse at the end of a nice relaxing holiday than discovering the airline has lost your luggage…Or is there?

Canadian, Josiah Allen, has more cause to complain than most after Delta lost his pet dog!

Returning home from a holiday in Mexico on 3rd May 2010, Josiah found that Delta Air Lines had lost his beloved dog Paco (who was travelling with his owner as pet cargo).

When he landed in Detroit he grew increasingly worried when he realised his pet pooch – a cross between a dachshund and a Jack Russell terrier – hadn’t arrived, but employees reassured him that poor Paco would arrive on the next flight and was being well looked after. The next flight arrived – no Paco.

Eventually, after several phone calls, Delta told Josiah Paco had somehow escaped from his kennel at the airport in Mexico City.

In a letter to Consumerist.com website, Josiah said: “I was shocked. I had been told explicitly that my dog was being cared for in Mexico City by Delta until he could be flown and delivered to me, and now they were telling me that they didn’t know where my dog was.”

Delta offered to refund the $200 in fees Josiah had paid for Paco’s transport as vouchers for future travel with Delta. But Josiah has vowed never to fly with the airline again.

So next time your bag is mislaid spare a thought for poor Paco – missing in transit. With AXA Travel insurance we won’t cover your pets but we will cover you for lost luggage up to €4,000.
